JERELYN HANRAHAN

Jerelyn Hanrahan’s artistic career began with a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in painting from the University of Maryland and an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts. Traditionally trained as a painter her current work embraces material diversity and works in painting, drawing and sculpture as well as conceptual and multimedia interactive public art works.

Her drawings have been exhibited in the Aargau Kunsthaus, Switzerland, the Venice Pavilion, Venice, Italy, and Beijing, China, as well as Galerie Rohmer Apotheke , Zurich, Switzerland, and a solo exhibition at Art Magazin, Rolf Muller in Zurich. Notations On a Trek is a publication of 97 of Hanrahan’s drawings done in New York, Kusnacht, and Rome, three places where she lived. The drawings were published by Ricco Bilger, Andreas Zust, Zurich, and the publication also includes three poems by British poet, Max Blagg .“ Eye wheel “ in Slow Dazzle, a collection of Prose and Poems by Max Blagg, documenting his collaboration with 23 artists.

She has been interviewed on three occasions for the PS1 / Museum of Modern Art radio station, National Public Radio, the BBC in New York and London, Telli Bern in Switzerland, Air Canada in Toronto and on Havana T.V. in Cuba. Her work has been favorably reviewed by Sculpture Magazine, The New York Times, Newsday, neue bildende kunst, Time Out Magazine, the Village Voice, NY Arts, the Brooklyn Rail, Tages Anzeiger, Kunst Bulletin, Art Observer, Adbusters. Pulse Magazine listed her as VIP, top ten artists to watch. Her projects have been sponsored by Creative Time Inc., New York Foundation for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Pro- Helvetia, Switzerland, Puffin Foundation, Fondation Nestle, Lausanne, Switzerland, Stadt, Bern, National Cash Register, and ATT.

Jerelyn Hanrahan grew up in Oyster Bay, New York, and the pearl form has been a consistent concept in her sculptural work as well as her house and garden functional ceramic line. POP, Plenty of Pearl Designs. The artist continues to work internationally as an artist, curator and educator, with a base on Long Island where she lives and maintains her studio. Her work resides in public and private collections.
