KATHERINE GLENDAY

For over forty years Katherine Glenday has been creating meditative ceramic and porcelain pieces by hand in her South African studio. Remarkable in their translucency and luminosity, the porcelain vessel has been Katherine’s central voice since the early eighties. Her explorations of light, movement, water, earth, and sound have found form through thrown and slip-cast porcelain vessels.

The Light Forge was born out of Katherine Glenday’s porcelain studio as a functional body of work that seeks to preserve Katherine’s imaginings and explorations in porcelain that she has continued to explore and hone for over 40 years. The vessels utilize natural elements from Kalk Bay, South Africa. Each with their own unique resonating sound and purity of form, these pieces result in a body of work that represents an endeavor in which the studio focuses and centralizes their ideas into a conversation that has, at its core, stillness, and tranquility.
